The Tutu Trend: Why We Love Tutus

The Tutu Trend: Why We Love TutusMost little girls love the idea of being a ballerina.  Maybe because ballerinas are the closest thing to fairies or princesses we have in real life…unless you are Kate Middleton, of course.  Dressing in a tutu as a little girl probably helped you step into a different persona – one where you felt beautiful and special and elegant and graceful.  And who doesn’t want to feel that way?

Now, as a grown woman, you still have the same wants and desires as that little girl.  Yes, you’re a bit wiser, more grounded and you probably realize a prince or knight in shining armor won’t literally rescue you.  But returning to that girlish dream may not be such a bad thing, especially when tutus are extremely trendy and flattering.

We love the tutu trend and here’s why…

Tutus are Flattering – With a fitted waistband and a full skirt, this version of an A-line skirt is extremely complimentary to many body types.  If you’re hoping to cover some tummy bulge or a wide bottom and thighs, a high-waisted tutu can do the trick.  With thin layers, a tutu adds volume and illusion without being bulky and cumbersome.

Tutus are Feminine – Nothing says “I’m a woman” like tulle!  This version of lace is as classic as ballet itself.  In a feminine pink, white or floral design, your skirt will do the flirting for you.

Tutus Show your Best Assets – A full skirt begs for a fitted top, which will allow you to show off some of your best assets, your breasts.  No need to wear a super tight or low-cut top, but a fitted sweater or blouse will create a lovely silhouette that balances a broader skirt.  Be sure to wear a seamless full figure bra to create a smooth, sleek line beneath your top.

Tutus Accentuate Great Legs – Tutus can be short, long or in-between.  If you’ve got great legs, show them off in an adorable short tutu and some killer heels.  Short tutus should have wider flair and are often more flattering with extra layers of tulle.

Tutus Work for Any Season – In the winter, tutus can be festive and snowy. In spring, tutus are wistful and flirty. In summer, tutus are breezy and light.  In fall, tutus are transitional and edgy.  No matter what season you’re dressing for, a tutu is always in style.

Tutus can be Casual or Dressy – Tutus are easy daytime wear with t-shirts, button-downs or tanks.  Or the same tutu can be dressed up for an elegant night out with a sparkly blouse, blazer or trendy sweater.  Just change your shoes and your jewelry and you’re all set for day or night in your fabulous tutu.

Tutus Allow You to Move – Perhaps the easiest skirt on the planet to wear, tutus allow maximum mobility.  Don’t believe us?  Try riding a bicycle in a pencil skirt.  OK?

Tutus Help Regain Youthfulness – It’s hard not to return to your youthful princess-like passions when you’re wearing a tutu.  We could all use a piece of that joy, innocence and belief in “once upon a time” in our lives.
