Why do I need a maternity bra?

Unlike fashion bras, maternity bras are especially designed to support the entire breast, which extends beyond what the average person considers to be breast tissue. Purchasing a fashion bra in a larger size won't provide the comfort and support you require while your body prepares for nursing.

 

When do I purchase a maternity bra?

Most women buy their first maternity bra toward the end of the first trimester, or as soon as their fashion bras begin to feel uncomfortable. Because Leading Lady maternity bras adjust to accommodate 2" of expansion, the bra will provide some room for growth, however many women find they may need several size changes as their pregnancies progress.

 

I just purchased my first maternity bra and noticed that unlike my fashion bras, the straps have just a little piece of elastic at the back. Won't this be uncomfortable?

Maternity and nursing bras are designed with less elastic in order to provide good support and eliminate uncomfortable "bounce". As your body prepares for lactation, your breasts can weigh twice that of a non-nursing woman wearing the same size bra.

 

When do I buy a nursing bra?

Nursing bras should be purchased toward the end of your last trimester to insure the best possible fit.

Why do most of your nursing bras have hook and eye drop cups instead of the easy-open plastic clasps that used to be so popular?

Most women prefer the adjustability of the three-step drop cup. Once accustomed to it, it's easy and convenient to use and assures a good fit for proper support and comfort as the breasts fill and empty during nursing.

 

I noticed that some of the nursing bra styles have straps that adjust only in back. Why are they made this way?

The drop-cup feature on nursing bras requires the use of some type of fastener to release the cup. The use of additional "hardware" at the top of the bra cup would be bulky and inconvenient.

 

Can I wear an underwire bra if I'm pregnant or nursing?

Proper fit is the most important factor to consider whether you prefer underwire or softcup styling. Underwire styles currently account for about one-half of all the maternity/nursing bra sales.

When should I recheck my measurements?

It is a good idea to recheck your measurements each time you go to purchase a new bra, as well as when you have experienced changes in weight, your level of activity, or if you are expecting a baby.

 

Should I wash my bra before I wear it?

For your comfort, we recommend that you wash the garment. Leading Lady products are designed to fit correctly even after washing.

How do I launder my Leading Lady undergarments?

It is recommended that all Leading Lady products be hand-washed for proper care. Use a cleaning product designed for delicate fabrics. Never put a bra into the clothes dryer. Air dry only.

 

Why does the bra that I purchased just a few weeks ago no longer fit like it did when new?

Proper laundering is essential. Some bras can contain as many as 30 different pieces in its construction. If the bra is not properly laundered, you may find that all the fabric parts have shrunk in different directions, which would dramatically affect the way the bra fits.

 

How do I return a Leading Lady product that I purchased?

You should first attempt to return the product directly to the retail store, mail order catalog or online store that you purchased it from.
