Skin Care: Tips for Healthy Winter Skin

Healthy winter skin

Every leading lady’s signature look is a fresh, hydrated face and we want to help you keep your skin glowing throughout winter. Even if you don’t live in the northern hemisphere, these skin care tips will help you maintain a polished look. Cold daily temperatures, harsh winds, and cranked up thermostats in the office wreak havoc on skin, so don’t let your face suffer!

Start with the basics

Our first skin care recommendation not only helps keep your skin fresh but also is a key component of healthy living. Stay hydrated by drinking lots of water throughout the day. With the extra heat you’re likely to encounter at the office or at home, your skin will dry out quickly. Toss a water bottle in your purse if you’re on the go. When you’re out make sure to order a water in addition to another beverage. Getting into the habit of drinking lots of water will keep your skin soft and dewy even during the harshest winter weather.

Scrub and rinse

If you use a facial exfoliant, use that in your skin care routine before you wash with a cleanser. If you’ve never used a face scrub, pick one up the next time you’re at the drugstore. Exfoliant scrubs help to remove the rougher top layers of skin that are directly damaged by winter weather. Apply with your fingertips and rub into your skin in small circles. Be careful not to scrub with too much force—your skin should not be irritated by the application. After you’ve exfoliated and rinsed off the excess product, use your cleansing wash to finish off your skin care routine.

Tone and polish

Some beauty experts recommend using a toner during winter as another protection against dry skin. If your skin is naturally sensitive, the toner might cause more irritation than normal, but toners effectively polish skin when applied correctly. Before you use a face wash, apply your toner with a cotton ball or folded tissue. Look for a toner without alcohol or consider witch hazel as an alternative for sensitive skin types.

Soak it in

Moisturizing your face is one of the most important steps you can take to avoid dry, cracked skin. You should apply a good face cream twice a day—once in the morning and once before bed. Even if you normally only applying a moisturizer in the morning, you can switch to twice a day during winter. You can even try a richer moisturizer than you would use for the rest of the year if you find your skin peeling. Don’t forget to moisturize your neck during your skin care routine, too. Any part of your face and neck that is regularly exposed to extreme winter weather should be treated with the steps above.
