6 Things to Do the Day after Thanksgiving with your Family

The big meal is over, the kitchen put back together, the kids are asleep and you’re now wondering what to do the day after Thanksgiving with your family. Forget the shopping, there’s a big holiday weekend ahead and plenty for the entire family to enjoy.

If you’re looking for things to do the day after Thanksgiving with your family, check out our list:

Cuddle Under the Covers: If you have young kids, chances are you will not be sleeping in, but perhaps you can lie under the covers a bit longer than usual if you initiate a family cuddle. Gather everyone in the biggest bed in the house and lounge, hug, talk, tickle and love on each other as long as possible.

Make a Fort: Get out all the sheets, pillows and blankets and let your kids set up the biggest fort possible in your home. For just one day, let them keep the fort together and enjoy imaginative play. You can even let them dine in their fort. At the end of the day, clean up the structure and dream up plans for bigger and better forts in years to come.

Have a Family Field Day: Set up a few yard-friendly field day-esque games that the whole family can play such as a 3-legged race, potato sack race, ring toss and dress-up relay. This is a great activity if you have extended family in town or for inviting neighbors to join in the fun.

Create a Gratitude Mural: With multiple family members working on different areas, create a mural that shows what your family is thankful for this year. While Thanksgiving itself may be over, the spirit of gratitude should be with you all year long. Hang the mural in your home or garage as a reminder to everyone.

Pay it Forward: While you’re feeling grateful, share random acts of gratitude by paying it forward. Participate in a beautification project at a park or school. Make care packages for people in need. Rake leaves for neighbors who can’t do it themselves. Bring cookies to your local fire or police department. Show your kids the true meaning of Thanksgiving by taking action to better your world.

Do Something for the Winter Holidays: Watch Christmas movies, decorate for the season, select a Christmas tree, make a wish list. Anything that brings your family together to prepare for the next holiday is a good bonding experience and use of time.

We hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and enjoy the rest of your holiday weekend!
