Breastfeeding Success Story: Katie from La Leche League of Sumter SC

Breastfeeding Success Story: Katie from La Leche League of Sumter SC“When expecting my first child, I read about the benefits of breastfeeding.  I knew that is what I would do!  But I didn’t have much time to think about it.  At just 24 weeks I went into labor. At 25 weeks my daughter was born.

The NICU encouraged me to pump and provide milk for her.  Breast milk is life saving for medically fragile babies.  Considering her situation, my daughter did extremely well.  I credit much of her health to breastfeeding.  However nothing about the pregnancy, birth, or breastfeeding went as planned.  I stopped earlier than intended due to struggles with pumping and supply.

I had two more chances to meet my breastfeeding goals and reached them both times.  My experience with my daughter pushed me to learn more.  With more knowledge and support, I was able to overcome the challenges that came our way.  My 2nd and 3rd were both breastfeed at least 2 years!”
