Breastfeeding Success Story: Shirleyann from Centro Med WIC, San Antonio, TX“Hello my name is Shirleyann. I am a mother of two amazing balls of energy and I’d like to share my breastfeeding journey with those who may want to know my experience.

With my first child I chose to breastfeed simply because it came natural to me.

I had my son, Saul Ariel, via cesarean, which was totally unnatural and emotionally tolling for myself. Since I was not able to experience the act of having a natural child birth I decided to dive in with breastfeeding and exclusively breastfed him for two years! I’ll be honest I had moments where I wept with joy and moments where I cried with anxiety, and when we decided it was time to wean I rejoiced and celebrated getting my body back, yay for freedom!

I consider myself an advocate for parenting in general, I respect each mothers’ and fathers’ parenting style. As much as I love breastfeeding and teaching, and spreading awareness about it I am very understanding of each person’s personal choice when it comes to breastfeeding.

Breastfeeding Success Story: Shirleyann from Centro Med WIC, San Antonio, TXWith my second child, my daughter, Logan Elise, I am currently exclusively breastfeeding and back at work fulltime. Before I went back to my full time work schedule I had to seriously take the time to weigh out my options when it came to my choice on continuing to breastfeed. The obstacles life placed before me had me leaning towards formula feeding Logan. Thankfully I received lots of encouragement from my coordinator, Grace Guzman, and was able to decide that I would be able to juggle the parenting work aspects of life all while providing my baby with the best comfort and nutrition while I’m away at work.

My experience with breastfeeding is much different now than from when I was breastfeeding my son because I was at home with him before and now I’m learning all about being a busy working/breastfeeding mom. It is a challenge considering all the factors in my life, but if my story means I can help another mother to decide to go for her goal, then I’d also like to put it out there that it is very doable, some advice I can offer is to simply take it one day at a time!”
