I am pregnant and due anytime. My friends all want me to breastfeed but I think I only want to nurse in the hospital. They say that would be silly. What are your thoughts?

ANY amount of time a baby breastfeeds is a benefit, even if it is just one or two feeds.  Colostrum, which is your first milk, is loaded with antibodies.  Think of it as your baby’s first set of immunizations.  The colostrum actually seals your baby’s gut to prevent bacteria from getting in.

Breastfeeding right after the baby is born also has benefits for you. When you nurse your baby your uterus contracts and helps to control your bleeding.  It also helps to tone the uterus to get back to its pre-pregnant size faster.

Breastfeeding also delays your period.  Who knows, maybe you will fall in love with nursing your baby and end up breastfeeding longer than you expected!  Whatever you choose enjoy your time with your new baby and don’t let what others say worry you
